Welcome to the Practice Paper Lab

This hub provides independent digital and interactive practice environments. We utilize Example Papers—adapted from the syllabus structure—to provide a unique, hands-on revision experience aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE™ Computer Science (0478/0984) requirements.

Exam Structure

To succeed in the 0478 qualification, candidates must master two distinct assessment components:

  • Example Paper 1: Computer Systems

    • Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes | Weighting: 50%

    • Focus: Theory-based concepts covering Topics 1–6 (Data representation, Hardware, Software, Security, etc.)

  • Example Paper 2: Algorithms, Programming and Logic

    • Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes | Weighting: 50%

    • Focus: Practical problem-solving and logic covering Topics 7–10 (Pseudocode, Databases, and Boolean logic).

How the Lab Works
  1. Select a Session: Choose an Example Paper to launch an interactive study simulation.

  2. Practice with Purpose: These sessions feature original and adapted questions designed to test your understanding of core concepts while preventing "answer memorization."

  3. Interact: Complete digital trace tables, match terms via dropdown menus, and write code in the provided active-entry spaces.

  4. Self-Assess: Use the "View Guidance" feature under each question to compare your responses against suggested marking points and model solutions.

Key Features
  • Optimized Layout: All code snippets and scenarios stay visible alongside your workspace to eliminate unnecessary scrolling.

  • Progressive Navigation: Move through the simulation one question at a time to maintain focus and simulate exam pressure.

  • Exam Ready: Dedicated focus on the final 15-mark scenario-based programming tasks with step-by-step model logic.

Command Word Mastery

Below the paper selection, we have included our Command Word Mastery guide.

Many students lose marks not because they don't know the computer science, but because they don't follow the instruction of the "Command Word." This section explains exactly what the examiner expects when they ask you to:

  • Identify: Simply name or list a specific factor or characteristic.

  • Describe: State the main features or provide a step-by-step account of a process.

  • Explain: Give reasons or causes to show "why" or "how" something happens.

  • Draw: Create a diagram, such as a flowchart or a logic gate circuit.

Master these words, and you master the exam. Choose a paper above to get started!
